The ropeway is a convenient way to get to the base of Mount Asahidake. You can then walk a loop to the fumeroles and back. The views are lovely on the trip up and down. Park at the information centre, which has free parking.
Totally surprised in a big snowing day, good amount of snow around and saw the frozen waterfall with mild flow insideWhat a great nature!
Came during winter and grateful for the good weather as it allowed us to do some snow trekking and the view from the top is surreal. Remember to rent the trekking equipment from the visitor centre below the mountain. However, beware the weather on top can change pretty fast. Check the weather before coming. If not, the view from the ropeway up is very beautiful as well.
From the top of the ropeway, you can walk around the area. It's a loop and it's an easy walk where you can see the steam vents. I also hiked up towards the summit of the mountain. It's quite steep with loose gravel along the way. I only made it about half way because I wanted to catch the last ropeway back down. Give yourself enough time if you want to hike all the way to the summit and back.
Aspecially in the fall. Every where you go in that park - above, below, by foot or by car - you will not be sorry. Try spending couple of days in every side
We came here on a bus tour and lodged overnight in a hot springs hotel. It is Japan's largest national park and a treasure land of nature, surrounded by mountain chain, Hokkaido's "roof," dense woodland, flora and fauna. I only wish we could have spent more time here, but the late afternoon was approaching and we were bustled to our lodging.
